Department of Physical Education

        With the leadership and support of Party Committee and the University, after years of work, the Department of Physical Education has formed a practical, enterprising, innovative, positive and dedicated work style, adhering to the “Fitness, the Healthy Personality” educational philosophy, to promote the students’ physical and mental health. The Faculty fully implements the party’s education policy and plays an irreplaceable positive role.

        The Department of Physical Education consists of Physical Education Teaching and Research Section, Training and Competition Teaching and Research Section, Physical Fitness Testing Laboratory, Physical Science Laboratory (Sports Epidemiology Institute) and general office. The General Party Branch of the Department sets up the first and second branches of the teaching staff. Currently, there are 44 faculty members and 42 full-time teachers, including two professors, 17 associate professors and 17 lecturers. There are six Doctorate teachers and 15 Masters, one national judge and eight provincial judges. The teaching venue covers a total area of 118,000 square meters, including the gym, comprehensive training venue, table-tennis room, form room, gymnasium and indoor sports venues such as an exercise promenade. There are 43 basketball courts, 10 volleyball courts, three standard football fields (artificial turf), 10 tennis courts, three standard track-and-field facilities (plastic track). These, combined with various smaller venues, additional fitness paths and other outdoor sports grounds, not only meet the needs of sports teaching and students’ sports activities but also encourage the faculty members to take after-hours training and perform social-service functions.

        Physical education actively implements the theme of the State Council’s General Office on strengthening school physical education and promoting physical and mental health with the all-round development of students. Thus, we faithfully implement the basic standard of higher school athletic endeavor, set up the education philosophy of “health first”, actively carry out “sunshine sports” in such aspects as teaching contents, teaching methods and examination, and implement teaching reforms for basketball, football, volleyball and more than 30 sports-instruction projects, all of which are constructed with the characteristics of the public sports course system at the Huaiyin Institute of Technology. The “three independent” teaching reform and practice of public sports in colleges and universities under the credit system won the first prize of the school’s teaching achievement awards. The school’s sports teams repeatedly achieved good results in provincial and municipal competitions. In 2010, it was recognized as an “advanced school of physical education in Jiangsu Province”. In 2011, it was evaluated “excellent” in the assessment of public physical education curriculum construction of colleges and universities organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
