Faculty of Chemical Engineering
Faculty of Chemical Engineering has four Departments, namely Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, and Department of Polymer Materials and Engineering. We offer four undergraduate programs including Chemical Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Polymer Materials and Engineering as well as one Professional Master Program of Chemical Engineering. Among them, the major of Chemical Engineering and Technology has been selected as state-level pilot major undertaking “A Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers (PETOE)” and the discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology has been selected as one of the First-level Priority Majors Highly Recommended by the government Jiangsu Province. The Chemical Engineering and Technology undergraduate program has been accredited by China Engineering Education Accreditation Association to get a six-year validity period (conditional, from Jan. 2018- Dec. 2023).
This Faculty has full-time and part-time members with high education level. Currently, there are 80 faculty members, including 15 professors, 18 associate professors, 24 postgraduate supervisors and 48 with doctorate degrees. We have one “Qinglan Project” scientific innovation team, two academic leader candidates, three outstanding young teacher’s candidates, eight provincial “Qinglan Project” and“Six Top Talents” candidates, two candidates for Young Science and Technology Talents Project, and one leading talent of the Huai’an “533 Project”, “Six Top Talents”, and 10 backbone talents. Additionally, we have employed some professors of the national “Thousand Talents Program”, overseas famous teachers, and 18 part-time professors with rich experience in engineering.
The Experimental Teaching Center of the Department of Chemical Engineering consists of basic Chemistry Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Principles Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Engineering Training Center, Environmental Engineering Laboratory and Pharmaceutical Engineering Laboratory. The total area is about 5,500 square meters, managed by professional and part-time staff. The experimental center has modern experimental equipment for teaching, with a total value of more than 12 million yuan. It can accommodate the experimental teaching task of the Basic Chemistry, the Chemical Engineering and Process, Environmental Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering for the whole department, and has opened more than 100 experimental projects. The experimental teaching center not only teaches students the experimental knowledge and skills, but also develops students’ ability to connect theory with practice, analyze and solve complex problems and develop their teamwork spirit.
We have two provincial key laboratories, i.e., Key Laboratory for Palygorskite Science and Applied Technology of Jiangsu Province and Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Regional Resource Exploitation and Medicinal Research, and one National Engineering Research Center, the National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Mineral Salt Deep Utilization. Over the past three years, we have undertaken more than 100 research projects of various types. Among them, 28 are from national and provincial natural science funds. Sixty patents were granted and 20 were transferred. We have published about 200 papers and received 54 awards at the provincial and municipal levels and above. In 2014, the project participated by two professors from our college won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, which is a breakthrough in the history of Huaiyin Institute of Technology in national research awards.
