Faculty of Life Science and Food Engineering

        The Faculty of Life Science and Food Engineering consists of the Department of Bioengineering, the Department of Food Science and the Department of Horticultural Landscape, covering seven undergraduate majors in Bioengineering, New Energy Science and Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, Agronomy, Horticulture, and Gardening. Crop Science is the provincial key construction discipline in Jiangsu, including Agronomy, Horticulture, and Gardening. Bioengineering and Crop Science are the key disciplines of HYIT. Food Science and Engineering, Agronomy and Horticulture are the first batch of national pilot projects for the reform of agricultural and forestry personnel training. Also, Food Science and Engineering, Food Quality and Safety, and Bioengineering are provincial key disciplines. The direction of Bioengineering is the pilot program of professional degree graduates in chemical engineering. The project of “Modern High-efficiency Gardening Elite Training” was selected as the “Journey in Jiangsu” talent selection. At present, We have built four provincial-level scientific research and practice teaching platform, including Jiangsu Province Probiotics Key Construction Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Biomass Conversion and Process Integration Engineering Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Plant Production and Processing Practice Education Center and Jiangsu Province Biological Engineering Subject Experimental Teaching Center, involved in more than 30 practice bases.

        The college has a faculty with strict academic qualifications and excellent quality. At present, among the 101 faculty members, there are 11 professors, 21 associate professors, 21 Master’s supervisors and 69 Doctorate teachers, one national chief expert of the science and technology commissioner industry, one expert of modern agricultural and industrial technology system in Jiangsu Province, two academic leaders of provincial “Qinglan Project”, five young backbone teachers, five selected as the provincial“Six Top Talents”, four training targets for provincial “333 Project”, two training objects of young and middle-aged academic leaders for the provincial “Qinglan Project”, six training objects of outstanding young backbone teachers for the provincial “Qinglan Project”. In Jiangsu Rural Science and Technology Service Supermarket Provincial Science and Technology Service Group, there are three experts and seven technicians from Jiangsu Province. Since its establishment, the college has undertaken more than 200 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, including 17 National Natural Science Foundations, four National Spark Programs, and 34 provincial-level projects in Jiangsu Province, the research fund amounted to nearly 30 million yuan, published more than 50 papers on SSCI/SCI Academic Journals, and was authorized more than 50 patents, completed more than 40 industry-university cooperation research projects, solved more than 100 production technology problems for enterprises and increased economic benefits by more than two billion yuan. What’s more, the Faculty has won two provincial second prizes for scientific and technological progress, two first prizes of Science and Technology Awards of China General Chamber of Commerce, two provincial agricultural technology promotion awards, one third prize of the National Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fishery Harvest Achievement Award, and one first prize of Jiangsu Province Teaching Achievement Award.

        The Faculty has enrolled 1516 full-time undergraduate students, 58 postgraduate students, 30 undergraduate foreign students, and three postgraduate foreign students. In recent years, it has trained more than 3,000 talents on Bioengineering, Food and Agriculture for enterprises and government agencies. It has organized more than 20 long-term and short-term training courses for local governments and enterprises. Teachers serve as local government and business consultants for more than 10 times. It embodies local application-based undergraduate positioning.
