Faculty of Mechanical and Material Engineering
The Faculty of Mechanical and Material Engineering now offers seven programs, respectively in Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, Material Shaping and Control Engineering, Metal Materials and Engineering, Process Equipment and Control Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Robot Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is a primary key discipline in Jiangsu Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation is a specialty in the National Characteristic Specialty Construction program, a pilot specialty in the National Outstanding Engineer Education and Training program of the Ministry of Education and a brand specialty in Jiangsu Province. It has been accredited by China Engineering Education Accreditation Association. Material Shaping and Control Engineering is the pilot specialty in the Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program of Jiangsu Province. Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation and Material Shaping and Control Engineering are key specialties in higher education in Jiangsu Province during the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
At present, there are 108 faculty members, including 83 full-time teachers, 18 professors (22%) and 37 associate professors or other senior title holders (45%), 76 Doctoral or Master degree holders (92%), 16 Master’s supervisors, one professor enjoying the Special Government Allowance, one provincial distinguished professor, one provincial young/middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions, 15 high-level talent training targets in the provincial “333 Project”, one scientific and technological innovation team in Jiangsu Province’s Qinglan Project — Biomedical Material Surface Functionalization Team. Currently, there are more than 50 postgraduate students and more than 2,000 undergraduates enrolled.
The Faculty attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ innovative and practical capabilities. Every year, 230 students win awards in discipline competitions at or above the provincial level. The project “Campus Book Circulation” won a gold award in China College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition in 2018, making a breakthrough in HYIT’s gold award record in major national competitions. The grad-school admission rate remains at 25%. The graduate employment rate is stable at around 98%. The Faculty has a Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Jiangsu Provincial Mechanical Engineering Teaching Experiment Demonstration Center, National Information Technology Training Center’s 3D CAD Training Base, Huai’an CAD/CAPP/PDM Engineering Training Center, Institute of Modern Mechanical and Electrical Technology. In the past five years, we have undertaken more than 50 research projects at/above the provincial or ministerial level, including 16 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, have been granted over 60 patents and more than 20 software copyrights, and have won more than 10 awards at/above the provincial or ministerial level.
The Faculty has a good foundation for international cooperation. Long-term and in-depth cooperation in academic research and talent cultivation has been established with famous scholars and their teams from many foreign universities, including the University of Delaware in the United States, the University of Melbourne in Australia, the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, the University of Bremen in Germany, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
