Recently, 2019 “Huawei Cup” of the 17th China Post-graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling announced its award list. HYIT students won 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 2 third prizes, setting a new record high.
HYIT attaches great importance to the contest. Vice president Wang Dongdong came to classrooms to encourage and guide students. The relevant faculty made practical training plans and programs, and set up a mathematical modeling guidance team headed by Professor Wang Xiaocai and Dr. Liu Xuqing.
The contest attracted 14436 teams of Post-graduate students from 456 units including oversea students and those from various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions. HYIT organized 7 teams to participate in the contest. It is reported that since 2003, the contest has been successfully held for 17 consecutive sessions. It is a core event of the “Post-graduate Innovation and Practice Series Competitions” organized by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of Ministry of Education (CDGDC) and the Children and Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). The event is an academic contest for mathematical modeling applications for graduate students (including doctoral students) at home and abroad. It is a great platform for students to improve their abilities in mathematical modeling and use internet information technology to solve problems in reality, and to cultivate their creative spirit and teamwork awareness in scientific research.
