On the afternoon of November 27, the Opening Ceremony and Innovative Practice Forum of the 2020 Cross-straits Youth Canal Culture Experience Camp was held in the lecture hall on the second floor of Meicheng Road campus. Wang Dongdong, HYIT Vice President, Xu Yixiang, Deputy Director of the Municipal Office of Taiwan Affairs, Huai’an, Kong Jianfeng, Deputy Director of the Office of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs of Nanjing University, and others attended the event. Xie Hongnian, Vice President of Chung Hua University and so on participated the event online.
The theme this activity is “Exploring the Canal Culture and Sharing Innovative Practice”. It is divided into the opening ceremony, the competition award, mid-term report of innovative practice projects, and theme reports, which are carried out in a combination of online and offline ways.
Wang Dongdong presented her welcome speech and briefly introduced the basic situation of our university and the achievements made in the friendly cooperation and exchange with Taiwan universities in recent years. She pointed out that the hope of the country and the future of the nation lies in the youth. The Camp is of great significance for further promoting the implementation of cross-straits university cooperation projects such as land-moving teaching, brand-course construction, and students’ innovation and entrepreneurship exchange. It is believed that with the strong support of universities, the innovation and entrepreneurship education of young people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will surely be promoted to a new height.
In his speech, Xie Hongnian pointed out that the practical teaching of canal culture by Chung Hua University has entered the fourth year, and the early period of teaching work has achieved quite fruitful results. The constant sparks of intelligence centering on innovation and entrepreneurship have been appealing to more and more young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. He said that with the joint efforts of both sides, the cooperative projects will surely continue to innovate and make progress on the basis of the canal civilization.
Lin Qinmin, director of the Office of the School of Humanities and Design, Mingdao University, expressed her great pleasure to attend the opening ceremony and the forum. She hoped that the two sides will further strengthen academic exchanges, learn from each other, and make progress together and wished this event a complete success.
Kong Jianfeng expressed his appreciation for the achievements of HYIT both in recruiting talents from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and in exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. He expressed his hope to strengthen the cooperation with Huai’an City and HYIT and take brand projects as the lead to jointly promote cross-strait youth exchanges and make due contributions to a better future for both sides of the straits.

After the opening ceremony, the student representative Han Xuan made a mid-term report on the innovative practice project entitled “A Study on the Impact of Student Exchange Project on Campus Cultural Diversity of Cross-straits Universities—Taking Huaiyin Institute of Technology and Chung Hua University as Examples. Dr. Lai Yixuan, School of Management, Chung Hua University, made a a report on innovation and entrepreneurship entitled “Don’t Forget the Original Ideals and Aspirations and Innovate from the Heart.”
A total of more than 150 representative teachers and students from Nanjing University, Chung Hua University, Mingdao University and Huaiyin Institute of Technology attended the event online and offline.
