On the afternoon of September 17, HYIT held the first class for the 2020 freshmen in the Broadcast Hall on the fourth floor of the College Student Activity Center in Beijing Road Campus. President Sun Aiwu presented his lecture entitled “Inheriting HYIT Spirit and Shaping a Wonderful Life” to 2020 graduate students, international students, and undergraduate students. In this wonderful first lesson, Sun Aiwu affectionately extended his greetings to the new students: “Being a person with morality, self-cultivation, diligence, careful thinking, strong physique, and noble character”.
According to the need of epidemic prevention and control, HYIT adopted the combination of online and offline to broadcast the first lesson. More than 200 new students attended the lecture on the spot, while other freshmen gathered online to listen to it.
President Sun’s lesson focused on “entering the university and advancing in the same direction,” “following the times, and bravely undertaking the mission”, “building a dream in HYIT, embarking on a smooth and steady sailing towards the future” and so on. He explained “what is a university” and “what is a university for”, comprehensively introduced the school history and achievements, analyzed how to grow into a responsible ‘new person’ in the refinement and baptism of the times, and elaborated on how to contribute to the building of the beautiful HYIT. The whole lesson is featured by compact structure, clarity, strong logic, rich and detailed content, brilliant cases, employment of the simple ways in explaining profound issues, which made it easy to understand but with strong penetrating power.
President Sun pointed out that HYIT has been running for more than 60 years since its establishment. For more than 60 years, HYIT has never forgotten the original ideals and aspirations but has always been vigorously advancing; has always been focusing on connotation construction and made continuous achievements; has always been adhering to moral education and talent cultivation and has made fruitful achievements; and has always been caring for the growth of teachers and students so that they can release their state of mind. He remarked that any generation has its own “long march”and its own mission. Therefore, students should keep up with the times and strive to become a responsible new person of the times and particularly shoulder their responsibility in the critical moments such as the national revitalization, the mass entrepreneurship and innovation wave, and the epidemic prevention and control.
In the lesson, President Sun sincerely greeted the 2020 freshmen:
“First, you should worship morality, conduct self-cultivation, and try to be a HYIT member who loves our motherland and aims high. You should actively cultivate and practice the core socialist values, carry forward the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation, and unite love of the family and patriotism, take root among the people, and contribute to our country. Second, you should be diligent in learning and careful in thinking. You should be HYIT members who seek true knowledge and practice true skills. ‘Talents grow out of learning’. In today’s world, you should guard against arrogance and rashness, study steadily, and practice excellent strength and strong skills. You should be good at learning from others’ courage of ‘not letting our vision be blocked by floating clouds’, bosom of ‘looking further when you making judgment’ and tenacity of ‘remaining strong though dealt many a blow’ , in order to achieve your dreams in the road of life. Third, you should strengthen the body, try to possess both physical and mental health, and be a happy and confident HYIT member. You should be healthy and have sunshine in your heart. Only when you are not discouraged but are uncompromising in the face of setbacks can you welcome rainbow after wind and rain. Fourth, you should cultivate the soul, be a grateful, sincere and kind HYIT member. You should be grateful, love the school and even glorify the school, let your personal growth resonate with the school development, and achieve a better self. Fifth, you should taking solid actions and try to be a HYIT member who is practical, innovative, and coherent in knowledge and practice. ‘Knowledge is the beginning of action, and action is the fruit of knowledge.’ Learning is not only to read the book with words, but also to read the book without words. Additionally, learning, thinking and practicing should be combined while knowledge, faith, and action integrated. You should integrate into the school as soon as possible, adapt to the university life, combine knowledge and action, hone the will in practice and improve your ability.”
At the end of the lesson, President Sun remarked that when young, do not worry too much, just fight, and fighting will ultimately lead to achievements. He hoped that students can pursue their dreams with “HYIT gate” as a start point. “HYIT is looking forward to your growth, your actions, and your commitments.”
