On the occasion of the May 4th Youth Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended on behalf of the CPC Central Committee sincere wishes to young Chinese people of all ethnic groups on May 3. Xi stressed in the new era young Chinese people need to inherit and live up to the May 4th spirit with firm ideals and beliefs, that young Chinese people need to serve the people, enhance their capability and strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Xi’s addressing has greatly encouraged HYIT teachers and students and led to heated discussion and compliments among them.

Guan Baoru, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, said he was encouraged by Xi’s wishes at this special point of time when COVID-19 hits and viewed Xi’s message an impetus to work for students. As a cadre of the Youth League Committee, Guan stressed the leading role of the Youth League Committee in moral education among students and saw the combat against COVID-19 an crucial opportunity to promote patriotism among students.

Zhang Jianzhe, a student of the Faculty of Electronic Information Engineering joined the combat against COVID-19 as a volunteer and spurred himself with the discipline and responsibility that he carried as a member of the Communist Youth League. He holds that an individual’s strength is as powerful as a stream, but the strength of thousands of people united is as mighty as the ocean, and that we can wipe out the virus in solidarity no matter how rampant it is.
