To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement and commend our university’s outstanding Youth League organizations and young people in 2018, on the evening of April 29, the May Fourth (Youth Day) Commendation and Awards Gala 2019 titled "Young Hearts United Around the Party, Achievements Made in the New Era" was held in the gymnasium of the south campus on Meicheng Road. All HYIT leaders, including Party Committee Secretary Zhao Bingqi, President Sun Aiwu, secretary of the Huai’an Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League Li Yicui attended the awards gala.
At the awards gala, Zhao Bingqi made an impassioned speech. He pointed out that the May 4th spirit has nurtured generations of Chinese youth and history has proven that the Communist Youth League of China is the most loyal inheritor of the May 4th spirit. Over the past 60 years, generations of young people of HYIT have inherited and carried forward the May 4th spirit. They are determined in seeking truth, forge ahead diligently, and have dedicated their youth, wisdom and strength to the construction, development and expansion of HYIT, writing a magnificent chapter of youth!
Zhao Bingqi said affectionately to the young people of HYIT: first of all, we should cherish our motherland and aim high. We must uphold the Party's ideal and faith, follow the leadership of the Party, be loyal to our motherland, love our alma mater, consciously cultivate and practice the socialist core values, create a good personal development plan, strive to integrate personal ideals into the great ideal of national rejuvenation, the thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the construction of a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive characteristics, take it as our mission to "create a youthful nation, a youthful country, and a youthful HYIT," and make great achievements in realizing our ideals. Second, we must work hard and strive for the best. We should be diligent and good at learning, strive to adapt to the rapidly changing society, improve our self-cultivation and personal charisma, and achieve self-discipline, self-improvement, self-consciousness and self-esteem. We should fight for our personal ideals and the future of our country with perseverance as we strive to become the pride of HYIT. Third, we should forge ahead, stick to the right path and make innovations. We should build up the scientific spirit, cultivate innovative thinking, tap the potential of innovation, enhance our capacity for innovation, surpass ourselves continuously by standing on the shoulders of giants, actively live a brilliant life and help fulfill the dream of HYIT in the atmosphere of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. Fourth, we must put our ideas into practice and overcome various obstacles. We must keep in mind our university's motto: "Reading for the rise of China" and uphold the HYIT Spirit: "Pursue moral excellence and great learning, constantly strive for self-improvement." We must enhance our knowledge in practice, increase our competence in exercise, keep our feet on the ground on the broad stage of HYIT, integrate knowledge with practice, and contribute our youthful passion and wisdom toward the dream of China's great rejuvenation.

The gala started with the opening video "What's Youth?" The opening dance "Flowers in May" accompanied by beautiful melodies was both graceful and charming. The recitation of "Role Models for Young People" depicted role models in various professional fields, showing young people's aspiration to march forward by drawing on the power of role models. The song and dance "Memories of Youth" based on dream building of HYIT students fully reflected the youthful vitality and dream-seeking spirit of contemporary college students. The song and drama "Choices of Youth" was full of students' youth and vitality. The dynamic street dance "Flames of Youth" interpreted the connotations of youth in passionate melodies. The song "We Are All Dream Chasers" showed the youth and vitality of contemporary college students, inspiring them to strive for the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The song "Ode to the Motherland" was grand and magnificent, passionate and energetic, strong and powerful. It expressed the vigor and rapid progress of China in the new era and the people's high morale to build the motherland. The gala concluded with the song "The Glorious Communist Youth League of China."
The gala had a clear theme, innovative form, rich content and repeated climaxes. It showed HYIT young people's patriotic feelings and their unremitting pursuit of truth, their ardent love for the motherland and the nation as well as the spiritual outlook in upholding HYIT's motto: "Reading for the rise of China" and practicing the HYIT Spirit: "Pursue moral excellence and great learning, constantly strive for self-improvement." It strengthened the sense of mission and honor of our university's young people, and inspired our students to devote themselves to this great era and create their own wonderful lives in the grand blueprint of realizing the Chinese dream.
The persons in charge from all departments and units, the persons in charge of party committees and deputy secretaries in charge of student affairs from all secondary faculties, all counselors, all trainees in HYIT's "Young Marxist Training Program" and representatives of undergraduates, postgraduates and international students attended the gala.
