Time never stops. At the beginning of the new year, on behalf of the Party Committee and Administration of Huaiyin Institute of Technology, we would like to extend our sincere greetings and sincere wishes to our teachers and students, retired staff, alumni at home and abroad, as well as to friends from all walks of life who care about and support the development of HYIT!
The year 2020 is an extraordinary year in the history of New China. Considering both domestic and international situations, The Party Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has made decisive achievements in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by uniting and leading the whole party and the people of all ethnic groups to forge ahead, pioneer and innovate, and bravely win the double victories in preventing and controlling the pandemic and alleviating poverty.
This year, the school has kept the striving pace with our motherland and all the HYIT staff members work day and night, struggling to achieve high-quality development of the school. Our school, as a master’s degree awarding unit, and three majors, as the master’s degree authorization points, have successfully passed the provincial review respectively. The application for master’s degree granting unit has made great progress. The school’s various undertakings are flourishing and the school-running level keeps rising.
Over the past year, the leadership of the Party is more powerful. Under the guidance of the Party’s political construction, we have constantly strengthened the Party’s overall leadership over school work, established and improved a long-term mechanism for education on the theme of “never forgetting the original ideals and aspirations, and keeping in mind the mission ,” firmly promoted the building of a strong team of cadres, improved the quality and efficiency in the building of grass-roots party organizations, fully and strictly administered the party’s main responsibility, achieved full coverage of school inspection, and lead the high-quality development of school undertakings with high-quality party building.
Over the past year, connotation construction is more fruitful. Education and teaching have borne fruits in deepening reform: 2 approved second-phase provincial brand speciality projects; 8 characteristic specialties; 1 newly certified Engineering Education Specialty; a second-batch of “new engineering” research and practice project approved by the Ministry of Education; breakthroughs including the national “gold course”, first prize in National Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, bronze award in “Internet plus” national competition and so on and so forth. The strength of the faculty is growing: 4 new “national talents”; 1 new provincial excellent teaching team and one provincial excellent innovation team; 1 “Jiangsu Friendship Award” Foreign Expert; 3 staff members enlisted in “China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Research Center of Experts”, and 15 doctors selected in provincial “entrepreneurship and innovation program”, a record high. Scientific research capacity has been significantly enhanced: in social services, with 1 first prize and 2 second prizes for outstanding achievements of the provincial philosophy society for the first time; 116 cooperation projects in industry, education and research, ranking first in the province; the number of authorized invention patents and achievements far ahead of that of all the similar universities; social service “1111” Project promoted with high quality and high efficiency, and a “university-city fusing” high-quality development conference successfully held. The quality of education has been improved in an all-round way in the integration of industry and education: 1 approved provincial college students innovation and entrepreneurship practice education center construction point; more than 2300 provincial level competition awards; a new high of postgraduate entrance examination acceptance rate and award-winning number of undergraduate graduation design (thesis); quite a number of “Chinese College Students Self-Reliance Stars” and “Most Beautiful University Graduates in Jiangsu” and so on. An open school-running has been steadily advanced in win-win cooperation: 10 new overseas cooperative colleges and universities, 6 new overseas cooperative courses, the established “Sino-European Canal Culture Studies Center” and the increasingly prominent brand of “studying abroad at HYIT”.Internal governance enhances its efficiency in mechanism innovation: revising and perfecting comprehensive assessment methods for target tasks, rules of procedure of secondary units, systematically promoting comprehensive reform of scientific research management, professional title evaluation, new distribution, and so on, and thus accelerates the modernization of school governance system and governance ability.
Over the past year, the happy HYIT campuses have radiated with new opportunities. The spirit of HYIT becomes more prominent, the university culture more characteristic, and the style and features of teachers and students more exalted. The school conditions are constantly improved, and spirits of solid implementation and the striving for excellence have been increasingly valued. In the face of Covid-19 pandemic, the school has always put the safety and health of teachers and students in the first place. The vast number of alumni are concerned with the school, helping to fight against the pandemic, and all the HYIT staff members have made their concerted efforts to strike a balance between epidemic prevention and control and their career development.
“All good principles should adapt to changing times to remain relevant.” 2021 is the opening year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the key year to speed up the construction of a high-quality development system for higher education, and the year in which our school ushers her journey into upgrading to a university. Looking forward to 2021, we should work together, pay attention to both general and specific issues, and keep on striving to compose a new chapter! Standing at the historical intersection to achieve the two-centenary goals, let us adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guide, practise new requirements of “becoming an example, becoming a model, and becoming a leader”, create a distinctive high-level applied Huai’an University, and pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China with outstanding achievements!
