When the breeze blew over Xianming Lake in September, several thousand new faces appeared on campus. Huaiyin Institute of Technology welcomed freshmen of 2022. With infinite longing and good expectations, they started a new university life and their wonderful relationship with HYIT.

Old Classmates Gathering in HYIT

“I get along well with each of them!” Hu Zhanshuo, who had just finished military training, said with a smile, causing everyone to laugh. Sitting next to him were his high school classmates for 3 years: Shen Zhicheng, Peng Yu, Yao Human, Liu Lingling and Zhang Xiaoxuan. These six old classmates were all admitted to Huaiyin Institute of Technology this year, among whom Shen Zhicheng and Peng Yu were assigned to the same class.

Recalling their high school days, they smiled at each other. Shen Zhicheng was the former monitor and Liu Lingling was the League secretary who led the students through the hardest days of their Grade 12 and they often encouraged each other and shared their learning methods. When collecting statistics on the enrollment of her classmates, Liu Lingling was surprised to find that five other students, including her good friends Yao Human and Zhang Xiaoxuan, had also been admitted to HYIT. Speaking of such luck, everyone says that they have a greater sense of togetherness when they are in a strange city with old classmates around, and it is great for them to go back home in the company of classmates.

As to the reason for choosing Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Zhang Xiaoxuan said that Huaiyin Institute of Technology is not only close to his hometown, but also a provincial college with distinctive application characteristics, a master’s degree-awarding institution and a college with very good learning atmosphere, which is very suitable for him. Hu Zhanshuo was a little excited and he said, “Some seniors warmly introduced Huaiyin Institute of Technology to me. I learned that HYIT has very strong disciplines, and its basketball team is also very good here, so I applied for it!” For the four-year plan of college, the six friends couldn’t help thinking that they had set a small aim - to pass CET 4 successfully. Shen Zhicheng, Liu Lingling and Zhang Xiaoxuan planned to take part in the postgraduate entrance examination. They believed that they could not relax even after they entered the university and they need to lay a solid foundation for the postgraduate entrance examination.

Father and Son Spending their Youth Studying both in HYIT

Zhou Sicheng is a freshmanof Faculty of Architecture and Engineering and his father also graduated from the same faculty. Zhou Sicheng says that his father is a senior engineer. When he was young, he often saw his father correct his drawings, which was very interesting. Influenced by his father, Zhou Sicheng also became very interested in architectural engineering. When filling in the application form for universities, Zhou Sicheng learned that his father graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering of HYIT and he felt it was a wonderful luck. Zhou Sicheng’s father also said that, as a HYIT graduate, he couldn’t forget the cultivation of the college, and he had been quietly concerned about the development of the school. “HYIT always attaches importance to the cultivation of students’ practical ability and innovative spirit. It’s the best choice for Zhou Sicheng no matter from the perspectives of the professional strength, teachers, or the learning atmosphere. Zhou Sicheng said that his father gave him a lot of suggestions on college life in the future, and he planned to join the army and take part in the postgraduate entrance examination. He would also join many clubs and student organizations to improve his ability in an all-round way.

Coincidentally, Li Rui, a student of the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering, also has a “father of HYIT”. Li Rui recalled that when she saw her father’s letter of admission to HYIT at her grandmother’s home in middle school, she searched for the relevant information of the school on the Internet out of curiosity, and the small seed of wish took root in her heart. After coming to HYIT, she felt a different kind of intimacy. She said that she would integrate into college life as soon as possible, put what she would learn into practice, integrate knowledge into practice, hone her will and increase her competence in class and extracurricular practice.

In addition, the family members of freshmen Ni Zhishen, Han Jiatao, Liu Hao and Lu Wenyuan of 2022 also graduated from Huaiyin Institute of Technology, and they had the same interest in the congenial learning atmosphere of HYIT and its teaching concept of training applied talents and of cultivating students to seek truth and practice real skills in their future study and life. The times are different, but the youth spirit comes down in a continuous line. Two generations of HYIT students have the same love for HYIT and they both work hard at their best age, advancing towards their dreams!

Edward Appreciating HYIT and Living it to the Full

“You can also say that I am a native of Huai’an!” This is the fifth year that Edward has lived in Huai’an. In 2018, Edward came to Huaiyin Institute of Technology alone from Uzbekistan to study and chose to major in software engineering that he was most interested in. This year, Edward continued to be a graduate student in Huaiyin Institute of Technology.

When he first arrived in China, Edward could only say “thank you” and “hello”, but now he can communicate in fluent Chinese and sometimes even speak a few words in Huai’an dialect. Edward recalled that he used to think that Chinese lessons were the most difficult, but with the help of the counsellor and teachers of the School of International Education, he gradually built up self-confidence and became more and more daring to communicate in Chinese. Over the past four years, Edward was deeply moved by the enthusiastic help and sincere love of his teachers and classmates, and he gradually fell in love with Chinese culture. He would write Spring Festival couplets, go to temple fairs and make dumplings with other foreign students, and spent the Chinese New year in Huai’an. “I feel very lucky to be able to study in HYIT. I want to continue my postgraduate study here.” Edward said that he had a strong interest in AI and intelligent transportation, and wanted to combine his undergraduate research with his postgraduate study. Huaiyin Institute of Technology offers relevant majors’ courses and he won a scholarship, so he chose to continue his study without hesitation. As to the future, Edward said that he would continue to study for a doctoral degree and would stay in China after graduation to take root in the field of his major and strive for some achievements.

In recent years, Huaiyin Institute of Technology has actively implemented the national policy, steadily increased the number of international students in China, and increasingly highlighted the influence of the international education brand of “studying abroad in HYIT” . There are still many other foreign students like Edward who come to study in Huaiyin Institute of Technology. They have made great achievements in various disciplinary competitions at all levels, such as “China Engineering Robot Competition and International Open Competition”, and they have shown their charm in various social activities such as “Reading Chinese Classics Competition”. As Edward said, “I have a sense of belonging in Huaiyin Institute of Technology, which makes me feel like I have a home in China.”
